SpiceJet Airlines – Committed To Intimate Experience at a Low Cost


SpiceJet is a low-cost Indian airline that has its headquarters in Chennai. Founded in the year 2004, it commenced operations on 24 May 2005, with the first aircraft Boeing 737-800 leaving Delhi for Mumbai. By the year 2008, it became the India’s second largest low-cost airline in terms of market share. It operates flights to Afghanistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Dubai and 38 destinations within India.

The primary hubs of the airline are located at the Chennai International Airport, Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi), and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (Hyderabad), and the secondary hubs at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (Mumbai) and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (Kolkata).

SpiceJet operates a fleet of Boeing 737-800s with winglets, Boeing 737-900ER and Bombardier Q400 with only the Economy Class seating having a capacity of 189, 212, and 78 passengers respectively. These specifically selected aircraft provide a safe, comfortable, and fuel-efficient flying and greater maintenance efficiency to allow the low-cost structure.

SpiceJet offers reliable, on-time flying experience. Tickets can be booked online or at the airline’s 24-hour Guest Sales and Reservation Centre or SpiceJet Airport Sales Centres directly. As a low-fare airline, it does not provide complementary foods or beverages onboard. However, it has arrangements for paid snacks, drinks, and refreshments on selected flights.

It follows the no-frills policy in all aspects. It does not have a frequent flyer program to reward its customers but promises high performance travel experience at affordable costs. SpiceJet Airlines is India’s third largest airline in terms of market share, which has now risen to 18.6 percent.
